What do you do when something breaks? What do you do when your washing machine frame looks like this?
Well it’s time to get creative!
We had some plywood left over from the old bus seats and some screws and a saw and a drill. With a lot of sanding and some varnish to seal the wood we now have this:
The handle snapped too, that was the first thing to go so we used the same knob but made a wooden handle.
Now this should last for years!!

ReplyDeleteAside from the need to replace the frame, how useful do you find the wonder wash unit? My travel washer consists of a couple of 20l buckets and a (new) rubber sink plunger plus another 12l bucket drilled full of holes for draining and pressing exess water from the clothes. If I pre soak the clothes it is effective and the plunging time is relativly quick, but if I am washing all my families clothes for a week or so my forarms get very sore from the plunging motion. I have often wondered if the barrel type works better, but they are pricey and don't stack as well as buckets.

DeleteWe can fit about 4 t-shirts (adult size) and a pair of jeans. Each wash takes about 1.5 to 2 L of water and a small amt of washing pwd/liquid. Wash for about 5 minutes, rinse for 3 minutes. For extra dirty stuff, rinse a couple of times or soak before hand.
Ps. How many clothes does the washer fit in in one go? The bucket system I described above does 1 queen size and 1 single sheet and a pillowcase at a time (thinish cotton sheets) or whatever fits in without packing it down. Are the barrel washers similer?

Wonder washer takes about 2 kg so sounds similar. We don't tend to do sheets in it .. easier to use Laundromat.
